This is an easy recipe as it takes only about 5 minutes to prepare. And it is homemade. All you have to do is add all of the ingredients into a sauce pan. And stir them evenly. Once they form into paste, bring it to a simmer over medium high heat. It takes about 20 minutes over medium-low heat to make it becomes thick.
When the BBQ sauce is done, you can use it to make salad or grill chicken pizza. And you can use it to grill pork or beef skewers and add it into a sandwich.
This Kansas City BBQ sauce is sweet, smoky and tangy as most Kansas City sauces are brass bands with multiple layers of flavors, sweets, and heats. And in my opinion, this is the best homemade sauce for cooking and barbecue. It is quite healthy with gluten-free and vegan.
2/3 cup honey or agave nectar
1/2 cup tomato paste
1/2 cup molasses
1 cup apple cider vinegar
2 (15 oz.) can tomato sauce
1 tsp. freshly-ground black pepper
1 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. smoked paprika
2 tsp. garlic powder
4 tsp. liquid smoke (this is used to add smoky flavor)
6 tbsp. worcestershire
1. Mix all ingredients together in a medium saucepan. Mix thoroughly.
2. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to medium low and simmer (uncovered) for 20 minutes, or until the sauce has slightly thickened.
3. At this time you can add a few pinches of cayenne powder for extra heat. I highly recommended.
The preparation time is about 15 minutes, cooking time is about 35 minutes. The total time is less than an hour. Yes, it is quite easy.
This sauce may taste a bit vinegary at first, but that will be less obvious when you use it on meat. And if you don’t need to use this sauce immediately, just seal in a container and refrigerate.
