BBQ Recipe: Grilled Jerk Chicken with Lemon Juice
One of the best dishes of the Caribbean includes Jerk Chicken. The state of this special recipe is a mixture of sweetness and spiciness. This mixture comes from the two important ingredients from this recipe i.e., cinnamon and jalapeno. Want to know how to mix both of them with chicken to create a perfect blend of tastes? These ingredients are going to serve four people. Don’t forget to adjust the ingredients of the recipe if you aim to serve more or less number of people.
1 bunch Green onions
4 garlic cloves
1 jalapeno (chopped)
1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
1.5-tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon dried thyme
1/2 tablespoon cinnamon (ground)
Salt to taste
8 pieces of chicken drumsticks
4 tablespoon Vegetable oil
2 tablespoon water
1.Mix green onion, lime juice, olive oil, garlic, brown sugar, thyme, salt, cinnamon with water. Use a blender to create a perfect mixture of these ingredients.
2.Once the mixture is created, take out 1/4th cup from this mixture and set aside.
3.Put the chicken in a dish for marinating. Season it with salt and then put the mixture of all the ingredients all over the chicken.
Note: you’ll need to marinate it for 2 hours. Keep it in the fridge. Don’t forget to turn over the sides of the chicken twice. Although 2 hours of marinating will work, keeping it overnight can bring in more taste in the jerk chicken.
4.Meanwhile, heat the grill on high flame to ensure equal distribution of heat.
5.Place a non stick grill mat on the grate, and oil the grill mat, then put the marinated chicken on the non stick grill mat. 6.It will take approximately 10 minutes to grill the chicken. You can check it occasionally and turn over the sides.
Note: Don’t turn over the sides often as it won’t cook properly.
7.After 10 minutes, try to move the chicken pieces to a cooler part of the grill. After that, pour the mixture that you kept away on the chicken, and let it cook slowly again.
8.With 10-15 minutes more, your jerk chicken would be ready
Note: You can check it through its brownish-red color.
As lemon is the part of the recipe of jerk chicken, this is why serving it with lemon wedges and salad seasoned with lemon juice would enhance its taste.
Additionally, pita bread can also be used for complimenting the jerk chicken and converting it to a full-time course instead of a simple snack.
Mint sauce can be the third alternative that you can consider for serving it properly. It can also add a different taste to the jerk chicken.
